Stafford Borough Council joins Car Free Day

Stafford Borough Council employees are being encouraged to get on their bikes as part of a national initiative.

International Car Free Day took place on Monday 22nd September and the Council is keen to promote more environmentally friendly ways of getting to work such as vehicle sharing, cycling, and walking.Car Free Day!

Currently around a quarter of Stafford Borough Council staff use alternatives to the car to get to work – such as cycling, walking and public transport. But organisers hope that even more staff will ditch their motor vehicles and choose greener, healthier travel options.

The Council already has an award winning ‘Walking for Health’ programme, and a sister project – ‘Cycling for Health’ - is in the pipeline. It also supports the Stafford Annual Family Bike Ride, and Cycle Route Volunteer Work Parties – who give up their time to clean up bike routes across the Borough – and set up the now well know 'Back 2 Bikes' bike recycling project.

Recently it has purchased two modern Pool Bikes for staff to use for local work trips and has erected a Cycling Info Board – for existing cyclists and to encourage new cyclists – to mark Car Free Day.
